The tideline is where you read what the sea has been doing — you walk it after weather and see what moved. This log works the same way: Apple ships an OS update, revises a support document, or quietly reshuffles a menu, and we record what it means for the mic modes this site documents.
Publishing here is event-driven, not calendar-driven. September is heavy (new OS releases wash in — this year's set landed on the 14th), spring brings the x.4-style point releases that historically carry feature changes, and quiet months stay quiet. Between entries, the evergreen guides are the reliable reference: each carries its own verification date, and each gets re-walked when the platform shifts under it — starting with the iPhone field guide, which is where most journeys on this island begin.
If we got something wrong, the fastest tide to flag it is the contact line on the About page. Corrections get made in place, with a note.
How to read this log
Three kinds of entry wash up here, each marked by what it changes. Platform entries record something Apple shipped or documented — a new mode, a moved control, a revised support doc — and always name the OS version and the doc we read. Verification entries record our own re-walks: which guides were re-checked against which sources, what date now sits in their chips, and anything that had drifted. Correction entries are the ones we'd rather not write and publish anyway: what we had wrong, who caught it, what changed. Every entry links the guide it touches, so the log doubles as a change history for the whole island — if a page's advice moved, the tide that moved it is findable here.

Every Apple OS release that changed mic modes, 2021–2026
20 September 2026
Five years, seven releases that mattered: the Monterey debut, the 16.4 phone-call expansion, Sonoma's menu move, Automatic in the 18 cycle, recording apps in 26 — and what the brand-new 27 cycle did and didn't touch. Fully sourced, one table.
On the horizon: a re-verification pass of every guide once the first 27.x point releases settle, and a closer read of the iOS 26.1 wired-mic input-gain control. When those wash up, they'll be logged here.
